History of our wineries

From the beginning of the 20th century

The beginning of the professional involvement of the Frutos Villar family in the wine market is to be traced back to the dawn of the past century, when on a purely local basis we bought up and sold wine from the region of Toro.

Well before the officially demarcated wine regions of Spain, the so-called “Denominaciones de Origen” or D.O.’s, came into being, we set up our first winery at Toro in 1920. True to our ideal of renewal and progress, in 1960 we established our second winery in Cigales.

Upon the consolidation of the demarcated regions, in 1988 the Frutos Villar family purchased Bodegas Santa Eulalia, a winery belonging to the Ribera del Duero region. Subsequently, in an endeavour to encompass all the demarcated regions of Castilla, in 1990 we began to market wines from the Rueda D.O.

With this, and without ceasing to produce great wines from our own vineyards not covered by any Desgination of Origin, we have been able to create our wines in four of the nine quality zones recognised on the Castilla y León wine map.

During all this time we have aimed to create and care for the wine, looking to infuse it with our own way of understanding it.
